introducing...the create everyday classroom

Last week I took another B I G L E A P in a surprising direction.  I signed a one year lease for my very own space, The Create Everyday Classroom.

If you had asked me one month ago if this option was in the cards, I would have quickly dismissed it.

Steve Jobs summed up this process for me perfectly.  He said, "You can't connect the dots looking forward, you can only connect them looking backwards."

Here are some dots:
  • I am an educator.
  • I am an artist.
  • I discovered that I love inspiring others to create and I will do whatever it takes to help them.
  • I developed an online creative curriculum for adults.
  • I wanted to return to teaching, exclusively working in art education.
  • I developed my own art curriculum for children.
  • I started teaching art classes for children while renting out a weekly space.
  • I started hosting painting parties for adults in their homes.
  • Adults started asking for art classes.
  • I had to schedule adult classes months out (considering the space I was currently using).
  • Over the course of the past year, I had done a lot of research on classroom/studio rental.
  • There was a scheduling glitch with the current space I rent.  We couldn't have class and I was SO disappointed.
  • I researched sharing a studio/classroom space with other artists.
  • I "stumbled upon" a vacancy which seemed to be in the perfect location for me.
  • I sat on the idea and let it marinate.
  • The space already felt like it was mine.
  • I sign a one year lease.
  • I announce my decision.
  • This creates another flood of ideas and classes.
  • I put them on the calendar.

Here they are:

May: Visual Journaling art class series
June: How To Be An Explorer of the World (3 classes)
