the effects of synchronicity

Do you experience sychronicities?  Do you take note?  I know that I experience far more synchronicities than I give credit.  It requires an absolute presence.  I am incapable of this absolute presence all the time (AND, yet, I am getting a little bit better every day...)

I have absolutely NO IDEA why I am painting birds (or why I even want to).  Other than the fact that I became completely fascinated with the robin family that took up housing last year in our backyard or my creative commitment that initially began as something else and became something more...

A few days ago, I went perusing the thrift store.  I consider this "creative cross training".  It really stimulates my creativity whether I find something that I need to take home or not.  I found a beautiful, old book of bird "plates" and for a mere 69 cents, it was mine.  It is just an absolute treasure to me.  Synchronicity?  Of course.  Thank you.  More Please!

Today I plan on experiencing the Minnesota sunshine that has been so rare this spring.  I plan on bringing my studio outside and painting.  Later this afternoon I will meet with one of my creative support systems.  Tonight I am attending an art opening with another artist friend.  Tomorrow night I have an opening/reception at Flow Art Space as we kick off the St. Paul Art Crawl.  Saturday I attend a workshop and teach another art class for children.  In the midst of this busy schedule of events, I am re-committing to staying tuned into noticing sychronicities.  They give me a zing of energy and remind me to keep putting one foot in front of the other.

p.s.  yesterday was DAY 10 of artist interviews on my blog (yay!).  One of my questions for each artist involves "creative cross training".  I also ask them about their creative support systems.  Check out the artists and their interviews here.

  1. One of my fav topics!

When I was in London in 1992 on a day by myself, sketching, journaling, going to museums. MIND THE GAP. It was a great day until I lost my credit card somehow. I took care of business and cancelled it, but when in the train station that same day I found a credit card on the ground, not my own. What are the odds? Syncro-something! (No, I didn't go wild shopping at Burberry. I turned it in to the station office.)

But with art, it is so important, in my work anyway, to be open to all of those connections.
