a dedication

This painting is dedicated to my dear friend, Lynn

at the LOLA Art Thaw exhibit with Peter
how fitting that this exhibition space was on East Lake

I met up with her for coffee on February 8.  I told her I was feeling too raw and run down to paint (due to the cruelty + violence I was witnessing first hand, in our city).

Lynn told me I needed a shield.  She clarified that the reason I am able to paint as I do is because I am "so open".  And being open isn't possible while being a front lines witness to all this.  She assured me that this shield would act as a barrier so that I could open up again.

I was planning on painting something on a large piece of cardboard - a literal barrier between my studio door and the rest of the world.  Little did I know that THIS is what would happen…

These wolves represent the protection Minnesotans provided (and continue to provide) amidst the overt cruelty and violence.  This painting has created a soft barrier between the current state of affairs and the vision I have of humanity.

and here is Lynn
Isn't she darling?

Thank you, Friend, forever and ever.
