do it. create. walk and see. cut and paste. scratch and sniff.
do whatever you have to do to feed your soul.

geometry in art: 3

We kicked off our third class yesterday of Geometry in Art with "building".
The students used large legos to print designs or structures on their paper.

While setting aside their compositions to dry,
students used india ink and a paint brush to experiment with
different ways of creating lines.

Each student traced a pattern for building a cube.

We used our line drawings and traced patterns to create boxes.
Even though I had presented the process, there was still a round of spontaneous excitement
when they witnessed their boxes taking shape.

We used our scraps from our line drawings to cut out shapes,
creating or "building" a collage on paper.

During our snack break, we had some, fun, interactive
time with the book, I Spy Shapes in Art.

We finished class by using soft pastels to complete our initial lego printed compositions.
Hint: this may be the start of some beautiful alternatives to holiday gift wrap over the next few weeks!

Everyone had some Tucker time too.

We'll see you next week for our last class of Geometry in Art (for now).
And we'll see some of you for the upcoming WEEKDAY WORKSHOP on November 26.

There are still a few seats available in these December classes.  Mix and match.
