piet mondrian study at st.mark's

Piet Mondrian was the artist of study and our source of inspiration yesterday at St. Mark's.  We began class by viewing examples of this artist's work while discussing the time and place of his life.

The children were given square and rectangle cardboard templates.  They arranged and traced them on their canvases to create their own compositions, eventually using paint as well to create a heavier line.

While we waited for our squares and rectangles to dry, we read the book, Perfect Square by Michael Hall.  This is another exceptional book, telling the story of a square with limitless possibilities.

During the morning classes, Jack (Sophia's brother), read this book to each class.

We returned to our compositions by adding white, yellow, red and blue paint.

It was so much fun to see and work with your children again.  Many of them couldn't wait to tell me where their vegetable paintings were hanging in their house!

I hope you all are having an enjoyable summer!
