putting birds on the map

We started a new art class series:
Exploring Sense of Place Through Art

Yesterday, we put birds on the map.  The children spent time drawing, labeling and painting state birds on small watercolor cards and then found the corresponding state for each bird on their large maps.

They were so engaged and enthusiastic about this project that I lost track of time.  Instead of taking a group snack break with books, the children took their breaks in groups of two or three as they finished up.  After snack, some returned to their state bird work while others worked on creating
one large bird of their choice on paper.

Owen's kiwi

Ellery's grouse

Even with what seemed like a shortage of time, Tucker wasn't short on attention.

See you next Sunday afternoon for an entirely different spin on maps.

Until then, Happy Art Making!
