tuesday art class

Yesterday we read Two Old Potatoes and Me written by John Coy and illustrated by Carolyn Fisher.

 Two Old Potatoes and Me

Although I didn't bring potatoes, I did bring a variety of fruits and vegetables for the children to  reference.  We also discussed the artist, Miroco Machiko.  Here is an example of her work.

Look at the children's interpretations!

What made this particular class even that more exciting was
sampling all the fruits and vegetables after we were finished.

We also explored the wet on wet watercolor technique.

Next week we are going to read about beetles and dinosaurs
and explore mono printing.

Happy Art Making!

  1. wow, love that artist! it looks like a great class with the kids and eating the fruits after is a great idea. they took in the project in so many ways!

    1. Thank you, Lisa, for your comments. I love the artist as well and can't get enough of her work lately. I feel like we could study as a class for an entire 6-8 week session.
